1. Hana Highway, Hawaii
While it’s a relatively short ride, the Hana Highway certainly isn’t short on sights. As the road twists and turns through waterfalls and bamboo forests, you’ll be stopping off for plenty of photo opportunities along the way. As well as snapping a selfie in a bamboo forest, be sure to stop off a Haleakala National Park before taking a dip in the seven sacred pools. Sounds like bliss, doesn’t it?
2. The Garden Route, South Africa
South Africa’s garden route, which spans just over 500 miles hugs the coasts of Africa’s most southerly tip. The insane route runs from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth, passing by lush mountains, sandy beaches and enchanting vineyards. With plenty to see along the way, you can make a pit stop at Addo Elephant National Park, soak up the scenery at Tsitsikamma and sample some of the region’s finest wine – when you’re not behind the wheel, of course.
3. North Coast 500, Scotland
At 500 miles long, the NC500 is not a road trip for the fainthearted. As you’ll explore some of the most scenic views in the northern hemisphere, you’ll pass through isolated spots of Scotland and rugged coastlines. It’s easy to see why this route is so often dubbed as one of the best in the world as you’ll get to enjoy picture-postcard sights, lochs, glens and Medieval castles.
4. The Atlantic Road, Norway
As you drive along the Norwegian coastline, passing through dramatic road dips, you’ll enjoy stunning views as the eye can see. While the actual route is pretty short, there are plenty of stunning stops along the way. Although it’s just 2.5 miles long, you could easily spend the day exploring as you stop off and discover plenty of points of interest. From the eerie Bremsnes Cave to whale watching spots, there’s much to be appreciated.
5. The Alcan Highway, Canada To Alaska
If you’re ready to take on a mammoth road trip that will take you through some seriously epic scenery, The Alcan Highway should be on your radar. Showcasing the very best of the North American wilderness, you’ll soak in lush forests and snow-covered mountains as you take on 1,1340 miles. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for wildlife such as moose and grizzly bears, watch dog-sledding and enjoy a picnic at Muncho Lake. And when driving has taken its toll, you can take a dip in the Liard River Hot springs, the second-largest hot spring in Canada.
